Well Visits All Around

Since having my daughter I've tried my best to schedule any and all well-baby visits together with her brother to reduce the number of times we head to the doctor's office. And for the most part it's been a great system that proves to be painless and easy for me. Today was no different.

My son had his 3 year well-visit and my daughter had her 15 month well-visit.

First up was my son. This visit was a little different than the ones we've had before because for the first time he was asked to pee in a cup. Now I'm not sure if I've mentioned this on here before but after going through the 3-day potty training method last year when he turned 2 we had a regression when someone suggested using pull up trainers when we went on our trip to Hawaii in August. As soon as he had that crutch he wasn't letting go and has since been refusing to go pee on the toilet. Oy.

So today I decided I'd try to see if he wanted to wear big boy underwear.

He was all gung ho about the whole process and even requested Thomas undies to wear. I told him to tell me when he had to go and made sure he had plenty of milk in his sippy cup with breakfast. I went to go change my daughter's diaper, came back to the living room and he proudly announced he went pee on the floor and wanted to know where his M&M was.

Fail.

But I just went with it, took him to the bathroom, placed him on the toilet and asked if there was any more pee. Of course there wasn't. We grabbed another pair of undies and headed out to the living room to play with some playdough before leaving for the doctor's office.

When we got to the office he made sure everyone knew he was going to pee in a cup. I told him to let me know when he had to go and he quickly agreed that he was ready then. We went in, we tried, and we did not succeed. Back to the waiting room we went. About 10 minutes passed and he said he had to go again. No luck. Then we were called back to a room. And I found out he had peed his pants. So we changed and waited for the doctor.

Everything went well with his appointment. He is right on his growth curve, is a healthy growing boy, and passed the vision test with flying colors. He even has great blood pressure. I didn't even realize they took blood pressure this early.

Side Note: I love my pediatrician's office! While I was busy working with a nurse on my daughter's weight and height, another nurse took my son to get all of his measurements and results. Quick, efficient, and friendly to boot! We love them.

The doctor asked if he wanted to pee in a cup. He didn't.

So we started to check out Miss M. We wrapped up things with her and everyone got shots and heal pricks. After that we started dressing Miss M back up and when I turned to check on my son I found that he had made a little puddle. Again.

So I grabbed a pull up, dressed him in his third outfit of the day and walked out of the room.

We'll leave potty training to another day. Today just wasn't it. And we'll try to get him to pee in a cup later on. Maybe our bribes need to be better than lollipops and M&Ms. He does well with french fries!

Have you potty trained yet? If so, do you have any advice?

I know it is frustrating, but he will get the hang of it probably quite soon. I remember going through this--six times.

Too cute! You may want to go ahead and purchase some stock in M&M's!

No worries, he'll eventually be potty trained! He won't be taking a pull-up to prom, haha.

My guess is that your son isn't ready - pee on the floor, can't tell when he really has to go. You need to go at his pace. Boys are pretty difficult to potty train. Good Luck!
