Re-Creating a Relaxing Bedroom with @BreatheBedding #CBias

Recently my husband and I upgraded our bedroom furniture and the size of our bed from a queen to a king to accommodate our growing family (and the fact that our kids had all but kicked us out of our own bed!). It's been a slow process but I am finally starting to love the results. Especially with our latest addition of Breathe Performance Bedding.

I can finally relax and enjoy our bedroom now that we've completed the last step in re-decorating. I've finally tackled the wall space above our bed and have purchased the comfortable sheets our family has been aching for.

Now typically we purchase bedding at discount and department stores (think Tuesday Mornings or Macys). We look for name brands at discounted prices and hardly ever pay full price for a set of sheets. We almost always wait for sales and try to stick with higher thread count cotton sheets since that's what we've known to work in the past.

But we've always had an issue with sweat at night and needed a solution.

Learning More about Breathe Bedding
In order to accomplish this feat, the kids and I headed to our local Wal-mart to check out Breathe Bedding. Not only had we not heard of Breathe Bedding before, we had also never seen it at Wal-Mart. So I was very interested in learning more.

Breathe Performance Bedding isn't your typical bedding. It is made with technology to help transfer body heat and moisture to keep you cooler, drier, and more comfortable. With a daughter who sweats quite a lot, I can tell you that moisture wicking sheets are not only helpful, but essential to a good night's sleep!

I loved the selection and color of the bedding and found a set of King sheets in a tan color that would be perfect for  our master bedroom. Not only did it look perfect for my sweaty family, it also looked stylish as well. The packaging drew my eye and intrigued me. Especially with a photo of Mia Hamm on the cover.

To read about my experience in purchasing Breathe Performance Bedding, check out my Breathe G+ Album.

Why Not Cotton?
Your probably asking me why are Breathe sheets not made out of cotton. Well, cotton does not allow heat to be released. It traps heat in when you fall asleep and throughout the night leaving some sleepers to wake up in a full sweat. There have been many a morning that I've woken up to a puddle next to me from the amount of sweating my daughter does during the night.

Inspired by athletic performance fabrics, Breathe Performance Bedding works while you sleep to regulate body temperature throughout the night and allows an increase of ventilation. This leads to a more peaceful, comfortable sleep without the worry of over heating through the night.

Gaining Inspiration from Others
Once I had my bedding figured out, it was time to get crafty and do something with these bare walls. Taking inspiration from a few pins I had recently added to my Master Bedroom Ideas Pinterest board, and rummaging through the house for odds and ends, along with taking into consideration the colors of our new bedding, I created a few pieces to add to the blank space.

With the help of some spray paint, plenty of leftover frames, my fabric stash, and a glue gun I was able to transform a few pieces into something new that fit well together. I started with the burlap I purchased at Wal-Mart and the largest picture frame.

By simply painting the frame white, hot gluing in the burlap and adding some fabric flowers and a felt S I created a personalized piece of art for our bedroom (tutorial coming soon!). I quickly followed suite with framed fabric and an embroidery hoop but was still missing something.

That's when I decided to paint the canvas I had on hand. I was going to go with a chevron pattern but it just didn't work out with the amount of tape I had so I went with stripes. This is the only piece I am not happy with and I've since decided that I'm going to find a mirror to take it's place. Unless I repaint it completely.

Putting the Pieces Together
Once I had all of the craft projects finished it was time to put together my new room decor. I stared by making the bed and grabbing the bedspread. I needed to visualize exactly what the artwork would look like on the wall so I layed it out on the bed and checked out the positioning.

Then I did what I normally wouldn't have done... I started blindly leveling and hammering to put everything up on the wall. Now normally I leave the measuring, leveling, and hammering to my husband. I've been known to just blindly go in and make holes everywhere until its to my liking and my husband doesn't quite appreciate my approach. But since I knew this would never get done if I waited I moved on by myself.

I have to say that I really like the end result. The combination of the new sheets and the added artwork to the walls makes the room feel complete and makes me feel accomplished! Finally our master bedroom is finished and I cannot wait to lie down and enjoy it.

Good thing it's naptime!

How have you spruced up your home lately?

Master Bedroom Makeover {Shop Bedding}

We've been working on sprucing up our master bedroom since we semi-completed the kids room. We needed something a bit more grown up and on our quest to finally have a fully matching furniture set, we also picked up a quilt bedding set to add to the grown up look.

Our room, sans some artwork, is now complete!!

Having kids means that any sort of "fancy bedding" is just not a good idea. When one child joins us at 12am and the other crawls in at 4-5am, there's no way we can afford to have dry clean only bedding.

Especially when one or both sometimes have accidents. Not a good thing for dry-clean only bedding!

So when I found this lightweight machine-washable set I knew it would be perfect. And it is.

Not only does the simple design compliment our room, it also has a few detailed touches that I love.

This set features a compass style American applique design, with a scalloped edging that is:
  • Quilted
  • 100% Cotton
  •  Machine wash/dry
And it comes with two free shams!

There are 6 different colors in this pattern but there are many other quilt sets available on the Shop Bedding site.

Full/Queen sets include: 1 queen (86"x86") quilt, and 2 standard (20"x26") pillow shams
King sets include: 1 king (90"x102") quilt, and 2 standard (20"x26") pillow shams

If you're looking for the perfect summer or fall bedding I highly suggest checking out the wide selection Shop Bedding carries. Not only do they feature satin and silk sets, they also have some great light weight quilt options like ours!

I'm not the only one who approves.

The kids love the new bedding set and how soft it is!

Shop Bedding doesn't just stop at bedding, throws and accessories; they also carry curtains! So if your drapery is in need of an upgrade check out the variety of curtains they carry.

And don't forget to check out their selection of bed-bug proof items if you're traveling around this summer! I was just in NYC and while we didn't find any creepy crawlies, I sure did check twice!

Shop Bedding is the perfect place to find any specialty bedding items you might need to create the perfect room!

Relaxing with Jaxx and The Soothing Company

The final piece in our toddler bedroom makeover was a place the kids could go to relax, read, and get comfy. I wanted to create a sitting area that they could use as a book nook. And everyone knows that any good book nook needs a nice, soft place to sit or lay down while unraveling tales of fun and adventures. We decided that a Jaxx bean bag chair from The Soothing Company would be the perfect item to add to the room.

The Soothing Company carries a wide variety of bean bags, water features, and much more geared towards creating a soothing and relaxing environment for any area. But since we needed seating we knew that a bean bag would be the way to go.

So we started perusing their large selection and immediately narrowed our search down to two styles of bean bag: the Jaxx Club Jr Bean Bag Chair and the Jaxx Sac Jr Bean Bag Chair.

We went with the Jaxx Club Jr and LOVE it! Not only is it the perfect size for one adult and one child to comfortably sit and read in it, it's also great for... er... other activities...

My son decided that instead of testing out his new chair by quietly reading with Mommy or Daddy he would really test it out. And then he taught my daughter to do the same...

We have since calmed down and have actually resorted to relaxing on our new Jaxx bean bag from The Soothing Company. And it makes a great prop for photos of the kids! I absolutely love how bright it is and how perfect it looks in the kids' room. We're already considering getting a few more for the playroom. They're just so fun!

And I loved how it was shipped out. If the assembly is as fun as the bean bag itself it's just an added bonus! We received a cube of filling along with an inner and outer liner for the beanbag. The cube was super fun to open and dump into the inner liner!

Then I had to wait a few hours for the filling to expand and retain it's original size before putting the outer layer (the green suede) on over the inner layer. And maybe I'm just a big dork but watching the foam expand from a small little cube to a huge bean bag was quite entertaining.

Interested in purchasing a bean bag chair of your own from The Soothing Company?

Check out their website and see what they have to offer!

I'm sure you'll love their selection and styles as well as their reasonable prices.

Dreaming in Style with @Wayfair

Isn't this a sign that all is right with the world?

My adorable toddler spending her first nap in her new toddler bed from Wayfair. When we first started talking about putting my son and daughter in the same room together there was much discussion about if we should purchase another twin bed or go with a toddler bed.

We purchased a twin with my son but there was also only one bed in the room. And when we weighed all of our options we decided that a toddler bed would be best for our daughter and the space we had. Adding another twin bed into the room would be too crowding. Plus my husband has had his heart set on a bunk bed for when they are old enough.

When shopping for beds we came across a great home goods site called Wayfair. They seriously have just about anything you'd need for your home and more. They even have a whole home improvement session that we will be taking full advantage of soon!

As I perused the site I looked for beds that were similar in style to my son's twin bed. I found the perfect one, a Dream on Me Contemporary Design bed.Within two days of ordering our bed it arrived and we were ready to get started!

Silly me thought I would be able to build the bed myself but once I got all of the pieces out I realized that some of the holes were not pre-drilled so I laid everything out and waited for my dear husband to get home. I didn't want to be responsible for breaking the bed before my daughter even got to use it.

Father and daughter put the bed together side by side. I'm always in awe when I watch my husband interact with my kids. He is so kind and patient when teaching them. Just as he did when my son's bed came home, he let her screw in a few screws, hold his tools, and play with the various parts.

She's now quite handy with an allen wrench. I'm so glad my children are picking up on all of these great skills! Maybe she'll be able to change a tire and the oil the next time my husband's out of town.

The bed was very easy for him to put together. And while I would have loved for it to come pre-drilled for the screws, we were able to assemble it in less than 1/2 an hour.

After some complaining from my husband about the fact that the long part of the bed was two pieces that had to be screwed together and that the bed didn't seem as sturdy as he thought it should, we were done. And he realized that the bed was perfect. It not only upholds well to my daughter and son playing on it but I can even fit on it too (but not very comfortably!).

I absolutely love how it looks in the room and cannot wait to show off the final toddler bedroom makeover pictures when we're done putting the finishing touches on the room. We still have to buy some replacement blinds for the ones our kids painted, and find some good window treatments, but I can happily say that we are almost done with this project!

Wayfair has been great to work with. Their selection is expansive, shipping was quick, and their prices are very competitive.  I'm already making a list of everything I want to order from them for Christmas! How easy will it be if I can just purchase everything from one site and have it shipped to the recipients?

Definitely check out their Facebook page to keep up with new products, specials, discounts and more!

And that's not all!

Wayfair has been kind enough to offer one lucky winner a Dream on Me toddler bed of their own (the very same one we have!) in the Noise Girls' Around The House giveaway event.

The giveaway event will be held from June 25th to July 16th and will include multiple packages valued at over $3,500! Make sure to head back and enter to WIN one of these amazing prize packages.

Glidden Gallons {Walmart Mini DIY Makeover}

My friend over at A Year with Mom and Dad is hosting a giveaway for a mini DIY makeover courtesy of Glidden paint. As soon as I saw her tweet on twitter about the contest I knew I should enter. I might not have a good chance at winning but I am in desperate need of a bedroom makeover. We have had the same furniture layout (which we can't change) and bare walls since my husband first moved into the place 7 years ago. And I can't stand the lack of personality our room has.

Sure, it's littered with toys and clothes and our personal belongings are on our dressers but it lacks feeling and emotion. Don't laugh... rooms need feeling and emotion. And since I've already started re-decorating every other room in our house why not start with the bedroom. So I am writing this post to highlight WHY we need this mini DIY makeover.

Below are a few great reasons:
  1. Our walls are a shade of navajo white. And that just doesn't scream bedroom to me.
  2. The curtains on our windows were purchased from a clearance bin and they just barely fit the windows. We need curtains that fit the windows and do something for the room.
  3. Our walls are not only painted white, they are completely bare. No pictures, no artwork, nothing. They need some help too.
  4. The night stands we currently have do not match our bedroom set at all. Being able to purchase something to match the set would make the room as a whole complete.
  5. And our bed... we need to update our comforter and sheet set to something different.
And while I'd love a complete makeover (including adding more room to our master bedroom) I could live with these five little changes. Because then I would know that I at least attempted to make the room feel more like us and it wouldn't have to break the bank.  My husband is always looking for a project to do around the house. If he was already given the money to fund the project then it'd get done a lot faster.

Here are a few color combinations I'm considering if I win:

Toasted White and Deep Garnet
Not a bedroom but matches the furniture - Softest Juniper
Mulberry White and Wild Truffle
What are your favorite color combinations? What would you choose for your bedroom?
